Jan 26, 2019 Windows 10 doesn’t use the device name to communicate with it. Instead, it uses the MAC address which users cannot change. If you’re not happy with the name a device has, or you have several devices with similar names, you can rename Bluetooth devices to anything you want.
How do you kind of 'reset' the Magic Mouse like it's the first time it's being used and paired. I've tried: disconnecting and removing it from the bluetooth preference as well the on in the Mouse settings. It'd be nice if there's some kind of reset but it doesn't change the. Fire up File Explorer by pressing Windows+E, and navigate to a directory with either a file or folder to rename. Click on a file or folder to select it, and click “Rename” from the Home menu at the top of File Explorer. Once the name is selected—if you’re renaming a file, not the file extension—you can start to type a new name. Aug 09, 2018 Choose System Preferences from the Apple ( ) menu, then click Bluetooth. Control-click the accessory, then click Rename in the shortcut menu. If you don't see Rename, make sure that your Bluetooth accessory is powered on, click Connect, then try again. Enter a new name for the accessory, then click the Rename button.
I have an Apple Magic Mouse, first generation I believe, and I am unable to rename the thing permanently. I have successfully renamed it several times, but it just changes itself back over and over again. I have even tried holding down 'shift' and 'option' and clicking the Bluetooth icon, clicking debug and resetting everything under that menu: 'factory reset all connected apple devices', 'reset the bluetooth module', and 'remove all devices'. I've done this with and without a follow up computer reboot. I think I've tried everything short of dancing the sacred Apple tech dance in the pale light of the waxing crescent moon. Does anybody have any suggestions? I know this is petty, but it drives me crazy because this shouldn't be a complicated fix. Thanks!
